Safe Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds)

What makes SANI-TRED products so advanced, unique, and extraordinary? They are solvent-free, low VOC, safe, and effective. Many effective waterproofing products are dangerous, full of solvents, and have High VOC levels. Many safe waterproofing products are simply ineffective. Instead of being inferior to solvenated materials, (high V.O.C. materials), SANI-TRED low VOC products are so unique that when first developed over 16 years ago, they were far superior as compared to any other urethanes and industrial coatings, solvent-based or otherwise.

The cost of hazardous waste disposal is another big problem for the industrial coatings industry. SANI-TRED low VOC products fully cure by moisture to form harmless, solid polyurethane's. Other coating materials, in partially empty containers, will often not cure in mass to form a solid material which is suitable for common land fill disposal. These partially empty pails of left over materials, of other coating products, are considered liquid "hazardous waste" and are subject to strict disposal rules, exorbitant land-fill charges, along with heavy fines levied for violators. Unlike SANI-TRED LRB, Permaflex, and TAV often other coating materials are unable to cure fully to form a harmless solids and can remain a liquid residual with-in used or partially used and discarded containers for years which could be harmful to the environment. This includes, and is especially true, of multi-part or plural component coating materials that are rated as 100% solids such as epoxies.

This term has become a very important economic factor in the industrial/commercial coating materials industry.

To arrive at this unit of measure:

  • One US gallon of liquid is carefully weighed at the testing lab.
  • The gallon of liquid material is then baked in a special forced air oven at 250° F for 4 hours.
  • The dry material remaining is then carefully weighed.
  • The difference between these two weights is called the Volatile Organic Compounds.

Most states are starting to place limits on the VOC content of coating materials sold or used in that particular state. The most progressive states such as California, Arizona and New Jersey have now set a limit of, 2.08 lb. per gallon, (250 grams per liter). Washington state has recently set it's limit at the 3.5 figure which is roughly the minimum V.O.C. for most low solvent based paints.

The problem for other manufacturers is that when the solvents that cause emissions are removed, the quality of their product notoriously suffers and an inferior finished product results. Low emission V.O.C. materials are normally infamous for being of poor, cured, finished quality. The very product that allows our indirect competition's products to cure with dependable results are solvents.
